Writing Awesome

After reading The Book of Awesome which celebrates small, everyday joys, I decided to compile my own list of Awesome Things About Writing to help me get through the ups and downs of the writing process:

Having a critique buddy give you a positive comment.

Coming up with just the right word.

Seeing a blank page, waiting to be filled.

Finally thinking up a title that works.

When the solution to a tricky plot problem appears out of nowhere.

The rush of getting positive feedback from a critique buddy on a specific section of writing you sweated over.

Realizing you've found just the right name for a character.

Finding that the word "was" didn't appear as many times in the chapter as you thought.

Realizing your novel is so much stronger because of revisions, especially when you're halfway through and wondering whether to continue.

Having a child ask you to hurry up and finish so they can read your manuscript. (This is my favourite one of all!)

Getting an unexpected hour or two to work on your writing.

Feeling a compelling need to write, even when you're bogged down by other work and can't get to it.

Coming up with a great plot twist.
